Chicago, IL, Sept. 22, 1999 – David L. Grenier has announced the formation of
C-Risk, Inc., which will operate as a risk management consulting firm specializing in
risk management issues facing the Construction Industry. Mr. Grenier has been
providing project management, construction management, insurance and risk management consulting
expertise to architects, engineers, contractors and insurance companies for more than 20 years, and
is a specialist in construction contracts and general and professional liability issues.
Mr. Grenier was an Account Executive with
Zurich-American Construction, and just recently left a Senior Vice President position
with CNA Commercial Insurance in Chicago to serve as President and Managing Director of C-Risk, Inc.
While with CNA, Mr. Grenier was responsible for the
development of their Master Builder Advantage Program (MBAP), a comprehensive
property & casualty and professional liability portfolio product for general contractors,
focused on design-build contractors. He introduced the Project Management Protective Liability
(PMPL) policy into the construction insurance marketplace, which is a project-specific policy to protect
all parties (owner, architect, contractor) against third-party claims arising out of the "general supervision"
of the construction process. The PMPL policy is a new addition to the 1997 American Institute of Architects (AIA)
A201, General Conditions of the Contract for Construction.
Mr. Grenier consulted on program design for CNA's
Building Assurance Program, a 10-year warranty product and
general liability wrap-up insurance program to mitigate the potential for
construction defect losses, built on an ISO 9000 quality standard and loss control platform.
Prior to leaving CNA, Mr. Grenier worked on program design for DesignOne, a risk portfolio product
providing property & casualty and professional liability coverage to architects, engineers and surveyors,
available to insurance agents and brokers via the Internet.
C-Risk is a concept developed by Mr. Grenier
over the past two years for an independent risk management consulting firm
that fully understands construction risks and exposures, and can provide construction industry clients
with sound objective advice on how to effectively manage the problem of construction risk.
"With the increasing complexity of today’s engineering and construction projects, contractors
must manage a variety of risks, e.g., financial, contractual, insurance, etc. The proliferation of
design-build as a project delivery method, and the use of wrap-up insurance programs
to control jobsite losses, has greatly increased the dynamics of construction risk. Conventional,
one-dimensional risk management programs are no longer acceptable", says Mr. Grenier.
"Today's construction firms require a holistic risk management
approach in order to effectively manage the multitude of risks encountered on most construction
projects", says Mr. Grenier. C-Risk will be a national network of construction, insurance and risk management
professionals, located throughout the U.S. that will provide risk management services exclusively to
construction industry clients.
C-Risk is in the final stages of development and a formal marketing roll-out
is scheduled by the end of second quarter 2000. The "C-Risk" service mark (brand) has been
approved by the United States Department of Commerce Patent and Trademark Office. The services are classified in
International Class 36, Consultants: providing consulting services in the field of insurance, risk management,
financial planning, insurance underwriting, and insurance claims management. The C-Risk website
