EIFS - Construction Defect Issues
|
|
Exterior Insulation Finish System
(EIFS)
Construction defect-related claims associated with the use of exterior insulation and finish systems, a.k.a.,
EIFS, have increased
substantially over the past several years. In order to provide you with some background on
EIFS, and what is currently being done to
mitigate the potential for additional EIFS-related claims, we have provided a paper entitled,
"Exterior Insulation and Finish Systems
(EIFS) - An Overview".
We have also provided a paper prepared by the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB)
Research Center ISO 9000 Builder Quality Alliance entitled, "Quality Plan for Installation of Exterior
Insulation and Finish Systems (EIFS)". This paper describes a
proposed certification program for EIFS installers using an ISO 9000
quality standard for quality management, control and compliance.

The mitigation of EIFS and construction defect problems requires the help of a construction and risk management professional
that has knowledge and experience in the integration of quality control standards with loss control and project control methodologies.
C-Risk can greatly assist owners, builders and contractors with the development and implementation of effective CD mitigation programs
that will reduce exposures, improve performance, and achieve results.
Additional information about EIFS can be obtained by visiting "eifsfacts", the website of the EIFS Industry Members Association
(EIMA).
It has EIFS information for both residential and commercial construction applications. Additional information on construction defects,
and an informative source of CD claims and litigation is Mealey's Litigation Report on Construction
Defects.
The information provided by C-Risk on construction defects is intended for general information purposes only and does not constitute, nor
is it intended to constitute, legal advice. You should always consult with legal counsel to determine how the laws or legislative
decisions on construction defect liability apply in your specific State and/or circumstances.
